We have all observed those vacant wooden pallets located behind grocery stores, but were you aware that they can provide a sophisticated garden appearance without breaking the bank? Regardless of whether you possess a large backyard or a small balcony, creating a DIY Pallet Garden is an ideal method to infuse your area with that vibrant, transformative charm.
Materials Required:
1.One clean, heat-treated wooden pallet (ensure it has the “HT” stamp!)
2.High-quality landscape fabric
3.A heavy-duty staple gun along with staples
4.Premium potting soil
5.A variety of your preferred flowers (consider petunias, marigolds, and lobelia)
6.Sandpaper (to smooth out any rough edges)
Step-by-Step Guide:
1.Prepare the Pallet: Sand your pallet thoroughly to prevent splinters. If you desire a splash of color, now is the time to apply some outdoor-safe paint or stain.
2.Reinforce the Back: Position the pallet face down. Cover the back, sides, and bottom with landscape fabric. Use plenty of staples to ensure it is secure enough to support all that heavy, wet soil!
3.Fill the Pallet: Turn the pallet over and place it in its designated spot (leaning against a wall is ideal). Fill the slats with potting soil, making sure to pack it in tightly to eliminate any large air pockets.
4.Plant Your Design: Begin with the bottom slats and progress upwards. Firmly tuck your plants in to prevent them from falling out. For an “instant transformation” effect, incorporate a combination of trailing vines and upright flowers.
5.Water and Observe: Provide your new vertical garden with a thorough watering. Since pallets tend to dry out more quickly than traditional garden beds, monitor the moisture levels closely during the hot summer months.
