Wonder how to use your favorite coloring pages with a professional look? If your into that “cottagecore” life or just love to paint an afternoon away good linework with gouache takes any art project up a notch!
Materials You’ll Need:
1. A quality coloring sheet (watercolor paper or mixed media preferably)
2. Gouache (Red, White, Brown, Green and Yellow)
3. A number of different small round and flat brushes
4. A cup of clean water
5. A mixing palette
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. The Outrageous Cap: Start with the most outrageous piece! Fill in the mushroom cap with a deep red gouache. Leave little white circles or use a super Opaquie White gouache later to fill in those “polka dots” look.
2. Texture the Stem: Apply with a mid-tone tan or beige for stem. With a fine-liner brush, paint vertical “gill” lines below the cap and light horizontal texture along on the main body to establish depth.
Step 2: Windows & Doors Add Some Life — Paint the windows a light, soft sky blue and give your door some colour with warm wood tonal brown. Be sure to trace the stone path up to that door!
Greens: Use as many shades of greens to color the leaves and moss around the base. If you layer a lighter green on top of the darker, then it gives the amazing 3D look.
Finishing Touches: With your smallest brush and some pure white gouache add highlights to the windows, as well as on the “shiny” parts of the mushroom cap.
